National Bookshop Day, coming to a bookshop near you this Saturday

August 7th, 2012

National Bookshop Day

This Saturday, August 11, is National Bookshop Day!

Held in hundreds of locations around Australia, National Bookshop Day celebrates local bookshops and their contributions not only to the local community but also to literature and culture. Shopping for books online makes it easier to find what you are looking for but there is nothing quite like finding an unknown book on a shelf or getting recommended a title from a passionate bookshop employee.

To mark this special day, the author of New Frontier’s Totally Twins series, Aleesah Darlison, will be at The Children’s Bookshop, Beecroft.

Other authors and illustrators will be joining Aleesah at The Children’s Bookshop such as Ursula Dubosarsky, Duncan Ball, Deborah Abela, Frances Watts, Belinda Murrell, Lisa Stewart and more. There will also be a ‘Living Window’ of authors at work in the shop window, book busking, face-paintings, balloons and a sausage sizzle.

To celebrate National Bookshop Day and 2012 as the National Year of Reading, Kinokuniya bookstore have made limited edition totes featuring an illustration from the Peter Carnavas picture book, The Children Who Loved Books. The tote bag is complimentary with all purchases made over $50.

On Saturday, Kinokuniya will also host a Mad Hatter Tea Party where customers can listen to storybook readings and decorate their own cupcakes.

Do go along to all the exciting events at your local bookstore. You just might find an unexpected gem.
